Every snorkel model in the SV Series utilizes the Scupper Valve on the bottom mouthpiece section. Then, Atomic gives divers a choice of tops to best suit their needs. The SV1 design has a conical flared top to deliver maximum airflow. The SV1 is the optimal choice for calm waters or for strong swimming situations. Even though water may enter the open top, the internal tube airway remains dry. Any water trapped below the mouthpiece is easily cleared with a small burst of exhaled air.

The letters SV stand for Scupper Valve. How it works? When the diver clears the SV1 a small watertight tube located inside the snorkel body is designed to keep the breathing airway path free of collected water droplets. The one way valve or Scupper Valve simply allows water to drain into a lower reservoir each time the diver exhales. The result is a crisp clearing, hydrodynamic, snorkel without being big, bulky, and uncomfortable to use.

The exhaust pipe features a special crosscut design to allow for quick, efficient clearing. The snorkel has a special internal purge channel located below the mouthpiece which deflects exhaled air out the top of the snorkel while excess water drains through the bottom purge valve.
